Apology and OWOB

Hello all!

I apologize, obviously I have dropped the ball the last few days. This is what I get for being engrossed in a book and also engrossed in a video game and also having to like, work and be a functioning member of the household and stuff. Hoping I can get back on track very soon.

In the meantime, I am going to be writing for One Week One Band! HOORAY! Still waiting on official date confirmation, but hoping to sync it with SJ’s comeback week, which I think is going to be week of 11/6. Also, assuming the schedule holds up, the week before me is two people that I MASSIVELY RESPECT AND ADMIRE so that’s going to be interesting/scary to follow up.

Not sure I agree with this track ordering. Two electronic dance songs followed by two KRY ballads? (Or well, a KRY and a KY?) It would have been significantly more interesting if this was at least mid-tempo but then, this is a Kyuhyun and Yesung duet; there’s virtually no way that would have happened. Continue reading

Bonamana contains four songs explicitly performed by soloists or groups other than plain vanilla Super Junior, and here is the first one, a KRY song with a creepy title. (Am I the only one thinking of blood? I think from lyrical context, a better English title would be something like “Freezing” or “Icing Over”, or even just “Hardening”.) Continue reading

“Boom Boom”, the second song on the Bonamana album, is again, “God she’s so hot, I’m so obsessed, maybe I shouldn’t be? But ughhh so hoooooot.” Super Junior seems to be less inspired-sounding when they are singing about how hot girls are; they do better with love songs. Also isn’t this the exact same premise of “Bonamana“, which is directly before this on the album, other than with added doubt in it? Continue reading

obviously obviously obviously

“Bonamana” is the lead single on Super Junior’s fourth album, also called Bonamana, and is pretty obviously meant to be as much of a repeat as “Sorry, Sorry” as they could possibly wring out of it. It doesn’t hit the spot nearly as much. Continue reading

Siwon??? A solo Siwon song?? Yes indeed; Siwon’s first solo song is from the Oh! My Lady OST, in which he starred as an asshole celebrity who lives with his manager/cleaning lady and gets her to watch his child and romantic misadventures ensue. And… oh dear. Continue reading

Two more OST songs, and then we’re on to the next SJ album. This is Yesung’s contribution to the OST for Cinderella’s Sister, which is a drama that is vaguely Cinderella-y, in the sense that there’s an evil gold-digging mother, but it ends up being mostly about love triangle(s) between the tough, cold protagonist and her spoiled, naive stepsister. First off… IMPORTANT NEWS SJ COMEBACK IS ON NOVEMBER 6TH. According to my calendar, assuming I stay on track, that’s the day I finish up the next SJ-M EP. Will have to throw a special party post or something since sticking with chronological posts, I won’t get to it until next summer. Also, sorry again that this is late; I started writing late last night but saw it was a single with MV and really did not feel like making a bunch of gifs. (Yes, I complain about the gifs; yes, the gif rule was made by me; yes, I could break it at any time I wanted; NO, I WILL NOT.)

I feel weird classifying this as “Super Junior ft. SNSD” given that only five Super Junior members and four SNSD members seem to be on it, but given that this arrangement doesn’t match to any of the existing SJ subunits, I guess this will have to do. Siwon, Yesung, Eunhyuk and Shindong appear in the video, though not appearing in any obvious way on the song, and so does Sooyoung from SNSD. Continue reading

There is a girl on this, singing backing vocals. A fan video or two indicates it might be Jessica Jung. But I can’t find her credited in anything more official, and it never really progresses to anything more than backing vocals, so I’m not super sure it’s her. So, not tagging her for the moment. Anyway! This is from the OST for TV drama Loving You a Thousand Times, which has a very complicated plot in which a couple is unable to have kids, so they enlist a surrogate mother, who then falls in love with the father’s brother. Heechul plays a supporting character named Lee Chul (really?) who is related in some way to the genetic mother. Continue reading
