This has such an annoying toddler introduction that I was all ready to give this a 2. But “Love Song” spends the rest of the introduction flirting with That One Song Everybody at SM did (you know, the one I talked about in “Happiness”) before becoming something slightly more complex. Do you know how amazing it feels, after five straight days of multi-gif Super Show 1 posts, and then a single/MV post which also gets gifs, to do a regular boring album track with no gifs at all? I mean, the gif requirement is my own doing obviously but lord, I was so giffed out. ALL I HAVE TO DO IS WRITE. YESSSSSS.

🎺 Dan-da-dannnnn! 🎺 It’s the most successful (but not the last) Super Junior subunit, Super Junior-M! SJ-M (M for Mandarin) was introduced in order to get those tasty, tasty Chinese fan-dollars (er, fan-yuan). The leader was Hangeng, being the only Chinese member of the original group, and the rest of the group was filled out by Donghae, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, Siwon, and the two most controversial members of the group, born-in-China person Zhou Mi and Chinese-Canadian person Henry Lau. Neither of whom, you may note, was in the original 12 or original 13 Super Junior members. DRAMA ENSUED.

Super Show 1: Part 1 of 5

Follow along!

Hello all! (Yes, I recycled that header image from “Marry U” – it really is a SS1 promo image, but the white suits seemed appropriate for that song/video.) This week, we’re going to cover Super Show 1, the first tour that Super Junior did, stopping in Seoul, Bangkok, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Chengdu, from February 2008 through March 2009. (There’s a huge gap in there – the second half of the tour is the Chinese part and two subunits debuted during the gap. This was only a total of 10 tour dates.)

My copy of Super Show 1 is about 2 hrs 40 minutes long, so I’m going to split it up into 5 chunks of 30-ish minutes and review/commentate across 5 days. It nicely works out this week to be Monday-Friday, though I’m planning on doing all six Super Shows and it’s not likely that’ll happen that way in the future.

Lyrics Only

SM used to do a lot more of these, but here is the second SMTown Winter album on which Super Junior appeared. Would have said third, but “Show Me Your Love” was actually a standalone single. Aside from Super Junior, the album has the usual suspects: BoA, TVXQ, TSZX, Kangta, etc, but now introducing SNSD! SNSD is not on this track (though they as a group and individually have several songs with SJ members later), but on an SJ-related note, were introduced as the “female Super Junior.” I’m not sure there was actually any parallel aside from SNSD having a lot of members, but they still only had 9 to SJ’s 13. Art is a vast improvement over the previous SMTown Winter album, although I’m pretty sure that’s Hyoyeon down there bottom row, third from the left, between Kyuhyun and Leeteuk, IN PIGTAILS which is weird to see. Also Heechul, fifth from the left on top row, is apparently incapable of pretending to sing without also modeling.  Continue reading
